I was inspired to order this book after seeing so many favorable comments on Amazon and I am so happy I did
James Martin is one terrific author engaging articulate and humorous I really like his style of writing and learned so much more about saints than I thought possible They are truly our friends on earth and remain so in heaven We can learn love and follow in their paths if we want to live lives that make a difference in our world I highly recommend this book Kudos to Fr Jim for letting us share in his marvelous stories behind their lives and I wish there were more books like this out there

The minute I read the introduction I fell in love with this book not to mention the authors style of writing This has been such a wonderful way to get to know the saints and how their lives came into play in Fr Martin s life His writing is so down to earth not to mention humorous in parts All in all this is such an enjoyable read I am so happy to have had it recommended by Fr Tom I don t want it to come to the end Hoping to find something else written by him very soon

Despite some that think this is a book of lives of the saints it s actually a memoir of one man s evolving spiritual life as reflected in his relationships and devotions to various saints The book is very readable open and accessible no theological heavy lifting although depths are alluded to Refreshingly the book is almost 100 free of religious politics A very enjoyable read and a good introduction to the saints Catholic devotion and the spiritual formation of a Catholic and a priest I highly recommend the book
