Committed A Skeptic Makes Peace with Marriage
>> how can I review still haven t gotten it
Hi would love to give a review but I still have not recieved this book and I ordered and paid for it exactly one month ago yesterday
>> It Would Have Made a Better New Yorker piece
I love Elizabeth Gilbert s writing What she lacks as a journalist which isn t much she more than makes up for with sharp insights the wit of a stand up comic and writing that often borders on poetic I like her too Eat Pray Love made me root for her I wanted her to find a happy ending A happy anything And here comes this book about the next phase in her relationship with the man she falls is love with in Indonesia in the end of Eat Pray Love
But that story ends before the first chapter Literally I m not giving anything away The title does Committed And if that s not enough A skeptic makes peace with marriage I knew that in buying the book of course Still I figured Great she s happy I looked forward to hearing about it And I looked forward to Gilbert s reporting history and usual accompanying insights and quips on the institution of marriage There s too little of her story however And the reporting as she herself admits is incomplete This isn t The Book Of Marriage by Elizabeth Gilbert The wit is there always Yet the sum total is a collection of essays pertaining to marriage which Gilbert collected in her travels One or two of them might have made fascinating magazine articles I m not here to play editor Overall there isn t much cohesiveness The writing in places is great As a book though there are simply too many long dry patches to rate this book four stars much as I d like to for the brilliant bits here and there alone
>> zzzzz
My book club thought this would be a fun light read over spring break We all liked Eat Pray Love and were excited to read Committed I m sorry to report that I could not even bring myself to read all of it something that rarely happens to me Did anyone edit this book It was incredibly boring and repetitive and I became increasingly irritated by her self absorbed comments Very disappointing
