Things I ve Been Silent About Memories of a Prodigal Daughter
>> True Story Compelling
Story of a living legend from the Middle East Iran Excellent book and one contemporary women should read Loved it and would love to meet this author
>> Things I ve Been Silent About Memories
Things I ve Been Silent About Mem Just read it and thank the Almighty Lord
that you were born in the U S A or don t read it and watch the nightly news or
Fox news Iran will never change and take it s place as a democracy in the world
as we as Americans know it The author of this book is watching her story happen
again each night on national television from the safety of her home in America
>> absolute waste of time
I enjoy reading autobiographies and modern middle eastern social comentary both which this book purports to achieve This book is so self indulgent She broadly refers to 30 or so years of Iranian revolution yet Nafisi never mentions the terrifying affects on the Kurds Jews Armenians or other Christians The book is poorly written and even more poorly edited with glaring errors as shocking as misusing the pronouns and distractingly incorrect sentence structures From and English proffessor Absolutely APPALLING to I as well as others I am sure sic Nafisi is absolutely judgmental of everyone and everything discussed with the exceptions of her brother second husband and children She makes excuses for her smarmy cheater of a father who is lucky not to have been stoned to death for adultery along with his multiple married mistresses Then to pay back his daughter for her irrational loyalty he sticks her with the crazy ex wife for the rest of her life and squanders a large chunk of the holding of everyone involved to spoil his second wife What an a hole Had he not been wealthy and politically connected he certainly would have met this fate though Islamic society is likely to overlook infidelity in men sleeping with the spouses multiple of other men is quite another story Personally I might have had more sympathy for him had he married another woman without divorcing Nezhat perfectly legal if distasteful Her wealthy entitled family literally escaped any appreciable hardship of the revolution admittedly because of their connections Guess what Azar lots of girls have crazy emotionally distant mothers with far fewer legitimate excuses than your own most of those girls are not coddled as you were by your own mother Frankly I find crazy Nezhat to be one of the few likeable characters in the entire story I find Azar Nifisi to be one of the least likeable characters that I have ever encountered followed closely by her father I also find it ditressing that she received a grant a stipend to write this junk as she could have certainly whipped up three fourths of it over a long weekend I hope her academic work is of a better quality than this or that her students have the ability to look beyond her narrow self important world view
