The Wordy Shipmates
>> Wordy New Enland History
I am a Sarah Vowell fan but this book was a bit too wordy for my taste It is more of a commentary on early writings rather than merely account of history with interpretation by Sarah One needs to really love this stuff to stay with her while she picks apart every sentence and nuance However if you are a real history buff particularly early American history and the influence of religion you will enjoy it
>> Mind numbingly boring
I have enjoyed several of Sarah Vowell s other works especially Take the Cannoli and The Partly Cloudy Patriot However this one is truly horrible While it s obviously painstakingly researched I doubt many readers would truly enjoy this unless they are really REALLY into the history of the Massachusetts Bay Colony
I only made it about halfway through and I almost NEVER give up on a book before the end ZERO STARS Very disappointing Sarah
>> makes history readable
I never thought I would buy a book about yawn the Pilgrims but I heard the author on a talk show decided it sounded intriquing She makes the whole period readable and entertaining
